Allegations of Research Misconduct
Allegations of Research Misconduct
The Journal of Applied Accounting (JAA) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity, academic honesty, and ethical scholarly publishing. The journal does not tolerate research misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, and other practices that undermine the credibility and reliability of scientific research.
Reporting Allegations
JAA encourages authors, reviewers, readers, and other members of the academic community to report suspected research misconduct involving manuscripts submitted to or articles published in the journal. Allegations should be submitted to the editorial team through the journal's official contact channels and should include relevant information or supporting evidence whenever available.
All allegations will be treated seriously, confidentially, and fairly. The editorial team will assess the information provided and determine whether further investigation is warranted.
Investigation Procedures
When an allegation of research misconduct is received, the editorial team may take the following steps:
- Initial Assessment: Evaluate the allegation and available evidence to determine whether it falls within the scope of research or publication misconduct.
- Communication with the Authors: Contact the corresponding author or relevant authors to request clarification, supporting documentation, or an explanation.
- Further Investigation: Where necessary, consult reviewers, editorial advisers, the authors' affiliated institutions, or other relevant parties.
- Editorial Decision: Evaluate the findings objectively and determine appropriate actions based on the seriousness of the misconduct and the available evidence.
All investigations will be conducted impartially, with respect for confidentiality and the opportunity for the individuals concerned to respond to the allegations.
Possible Actions
If research misconduct is established, JAA may take appropriate action depending on the nature and severity of the case. Such actions may include:
- Rejecting the submitted manuscript.
- Requesting corrections or additional supporting evidence.
- Issuing a correction or an expression of concern for a published article.
- Retracting an article when serious misconduct has been confirmed.
- Notifying the relevant author's institution or other appropriate authorities when necessary.
Protection Against Unsubstantiated Allegations
JAA will not consider an allegation alone as proof of misconduct. Editorial decisions will be based on a fair assessment of the available evidence. The journal seeks to protect the rights, reputation, and academic integrity of all parties involved while ensuring accountability and transparency in scholarly publishing.
Through this policy, JAA aims to uphold responsible research practices, strengthen public trust in academic publications, and safeguard the integrity of accounting research.
