This study aims to explore the role of schools in preserving local wisdom in the Indonesia–Malaysia border area, West Kalimantan. A qualitative approach was employed by collecting data through direct observation and in-depth interviews with teachers and students at SMP Negeri 1 Entikong, located on the Indonesia–Malaysia border. The results of the study indicate that schools serve not only as formal educational institutions but also as agents of cultural preservation through the integration of local values into various school activities, such as classroom instruction, extracurricular programs, and social interactions among school members. Teachers play a crucial role in transmitting values of local wisdom, while students demonstrate positive responses to these preservation efforts through their participation in related activities. The study recommends the formulation of curriculum policies that are more contextually grounded in local culture, particularly in border areas. It also highlights the need for greater attention from both central and regional governments to local wisdom, given that this area functions as a space for cross-cultural interaction and is vulnerable to the penetration of external values that may alter the cultural identity of the local community.
