Abstract

surface roughness is one important parameters in determining the quality of turning process result. This study aims to analyze the cutting parameters, namely cutting speed (Vc) and feed rate (f) on the surface roughness value (Ra) in the turning process of ST 41 steel.Variations in cutting parameters include five level of cutting speed (200, 215, 230,245, qnd 260 m/min), three variations of feed rate (0.1,0.2,0.3 mm/rev).Surface roughness measurements were carried out using a Mitutoyo surface roughness tester. The result showed that increasing the feed rate had the most significant effect on increasing the surface roughness value. Parameter interactions showed that combination of low feed rate and medium cutting speed (230-245 m/min) produced the best surface qualty. in contrast, the combinations of high feed  and low cutting speed produces highest roughness due to the simultaneous contribution of large feed marks, BUE formation, and increased cutting force
